When it comes to safety, Lhoist Group’s approach is 'Go for Zero', to ensure everyone returns home safe and healthy at the end of every working day. We believe that no job is so important that it cannot be done safely, with all hazards identified and all risks mitigated.
Our commitment extends beyond compliance: it is about fostering a safety-conscious mindset. By prioritizing risk mitigation, adhering to standards, and empowering our people, we create a workplace where safety is a way of life.
At Lhoist, safety is a core value integrated into every aspect of our operations and decisions. We strive to equip everyone with the necessary tools and knowledge to ensure safe practices, while continuously enhancing the safety of our work environment. We stand on the pillars of Rules, Vigilance, and Field Presence, ensuring that safety is a value that we live by. Because at Lhoist, we know that the well-being of our people is essential.
We developed a variety of communication campaigns, such as activities and workshops on World Day for Health and Safety at Work, to raise awareness among our people and encourage all employees to adopt the right practices.
Our ‘Go for Zero’ Policy is more than a commitment, it is a daily practice and must be part of our DNA. We are not only setting and following rules; we are also improving the global safety culture.
We empower each individual with the tools and knowledge to act safely, and we also continuously improve the safety of our working environment. We stand on the pillars of Rules, Vigilance, and Field Presence, ensuring that safety is not a mere priority but a value that we live by.
Because at Lhoist, we know that the well-being of our people is essential.
Regular risk assessments are integral to our safety protocol, ensuring that every step is taken with caution and foresight. Among these measures, we have implemented the "Stop, Think, and Go Safe" initiative, a powerful reminder for our workforce to pause, evaluate, and proceed with safety as their foremost priority.
A majority of accidents are linked to the human factor. Stay Safe is a campaign to raise awareness of good human behaviour, which can help prevent many accidents. The campaign is based on 11 themes of safety rules:
Truck drivers have also tasks that involves specific risks, that is why on top of those 11 themes we designed a dedicated comic strip with safety rules for drivers. (you can download it below).
As part of this Stay Safe campaign, every year on April 28, our teams celebrate World Safety Day. This event rallies all employees around a strong message: I choose safety. Our aim is to encourage a commitment to safety in the workplace that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries. Activities have been organized in all plants and head offices to raise awareness of the importance of safety and cultivate a sense of collective responsibility.
