Towards a more sustainable future
At Lhoist, sustainability is a journey we embrace with determination and responsibility. Our approach sets out seven ambitions: CO2 and fuel, Communities, Electricity, Health & Well-being, Lhoist for All, Resource Valorization, and Safety.
To make this approach more comprehensive, we also focus on areas managed locally and regionally. Each plant has its own realities, so actions vary by geography. Biodiversity, air quality, and water management are part of our local development plans, ensuring that our operations contribute positively to ecosystems and communities.
This roadmap is designed to steer our progress and share how we measure and report our efforts. It reflects our aspiration to innovate, collaborate, and lead by example in sustainable practices. Achieving these ambitions depends on the involvement of everyone at Lhoist, as well as our partners and stakeholders, working together toward common goals.
As we look forward, we remain committed to advancing responsible industrial practices, because we believe sustainability is not only the right thing to do, but the foundation for long-term success.
Decarbonization journey
Contributing to the transition toward a low-carbon economy is an important part of our journey. We focus on reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency as we explore more sustainable ways of producing and using energy. This approach is about continuous progress driven by innovation, collaboration, and a shared responsibility to make our operations more efficient and resilient for the future.
Measuring our progress
To better understand our progress and identify opportunities for improvement, Lhoist undergoes a performance assessment through EcoVadis, a globally recognized organization that provides independent sustainability ratings and insights.
EcoVadis evaluates companies on a broad range of management systems, including environmental practices, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Each company receives a score between 0 and 100 and a medal, bronze, silver, gold, or platinum, based on its performance.
Our latest assessments resulted in 1 Gold medals (Spain), 9 Silver medals (Czechia, Portugal, Brazil, Belgium, Germany, Slovakia, Poland, UK, Denmark), and 1 Bronze medal (France).
These results reflect the efforts of our teams across regions and highlight the progress we are making on our sustainability journey. They encourage us to keep improving and to strengthen our approach through innovation and collaboration.
