Oxyfuel combustion for CO2 capture

Most industrial lime production currently involves mixing limestone, fuel and air in a combustion process producing combustion gases and lime cooling air. This creates a flue gas containing on average about 20% CO2, whereas most methods of carbon usage or storage require concentrations of more than 90%.

On the way for a new technology

Oxyfuel is a new combustion solution that replaces the air in the combustion process with a mixture of pure oxygen and recycled CO2 to obtain a flue gas with a higher CO2 concentration. Pure oxyfuel combustion is a well-known technology, yet not fully demonstrated on an industrial scale. Our innovation teams are developing innovative ways to apply oxyfuel technology to our industry and have already filed several patents.
