Securing a low-carbon future

An innovative industrial decarbonization project has been launched to create a net-zero future for the cement and lime industry. Located in the Peak District in northern England, the Peak Cluster project would prevent more than 3 million tons of CO2 emissions each year by 2030.

It was initiated by Lhoist, Tarmac, Breedon, and Aggregate Industries, alongside Lostock Sustainable Energy Plant. The innovative collaboration aims to capture and transport emissions from industrial plants before permanently storing them beneath the Irish Sea. Peak Cluster partners make up 40% of the UK’s cement and lime industry, meaning the project has the potential to significantly reduce the sector’s emissions
