Discover the multiple functionalities of lime and minerals

In the production of glass, calcium oxide (CaO) and magnesium oxide (MgO) block the crystallization process to stabilize an amorphous and transparent glass. They also increase glass hardness and mechanical durability, improve endurance to natural and chemical attack and help repel thermal shock. Alone, MgO improves the pullability of the glass on the float, reduces the chances of the glass breaking during cooling (solidification), limits crystallization and helps create fibers in glass wool.

Minerals reduce the melting point of silica sand (complementing chemicals such as sodium carbonate (Na2CO3)) saving energy in the industrial glass furnace.
